Let’s look at the
different scenes of my small research summary with different paces of lives
gathered from different organizations.
- As a middle manager, you have a drama
to see everyday. The first, the
second and the third senior managers have different views and each of them
put a stamp that “mine is most correct”.
-
The
third wants to be the second or if chance allows, will beat to be the first, OR
-
The
second wants to be the first, kick the third out and get the first to be the
second instead, OR
-
The
first wants to be always the first and want to kick the second out and get the
third to be the second, OR
-
Everything
remains the same, but unproductively, life goes on.
- Many middle managers run around like a
chicken without head because they don’t know what to do as they have to
please and listen to so many instructions from many senior managers. In consequence, the managers loose
respect from their subordinates. Gradually, whole organization lacks of morale
and motivation.
- Bad managers don’t get punished
because senior manager have no gut.
So, many senior managers borrow hands from others to do the
punishment. Therefore, the senior
manager himself can be viewed as a calm, matured and fair as they love to
reward more than punish. Many ordinary
people in this world translate “calm, matured and fair” as an action of
“giving”.
- Incapable male management can ONLY
survive when they work under senior female management. And, incapable female management
therefore can survive ONLY when they work under senior male
management.
- I guarantee with my past experiences,
many bosses love to work with a bit incompetent people who nod their heads
and say yes most of the time. And,
this person is called “a person with good attitude and well-mannered”. Are you sure?
- Many organizations have insufficient parking
lot: there are no enough spaces, but I think it is not about the space but
it is about the ego of certain managers. “Why someone park at my lot, why I cannot
park here, you don’t know who I am……”.
Therefore, people whom I
sympathize the most are usually security guard at the parking area. If you want to do 360 degree evaluation
for manager, don’t forget to include the guard as an evaluator.
- Again, I guarantee with my past
experience that the smartest boss still falls into an easy trap of
believing only a specific person.
And, the boss normally does not know that this particular person
brings the boss to pathway that hell is waiting ahead of him.
- People in some areas
or in some departments can totally act against the rules and still survive
so well or otherwise it takes 100 years for them to get punished, while
some people in certain departments are very obedient but struggle to
survive all the way through, and managers seems to see every single small mistake of this poor
soul.
- Some individuals work so hard and are
never seen, while some sweet talk lazy individuals are the favorite of the
management. But when dedicated
people are recognized and seen, many people are jealous. When the lazy bump is rewarded, people
said it is not fair, but what to do? So, let’s be sweet talk lazy as it is
the safest.
- The nicer you are, the more wounds you
get because most people choose to beat the nice ones up and party with the
bitches.
- Many mangers don’t know the difference
between “taking ownership” and “possessiveness”, the misunderstanding of
these two would urge people to create hell on the earth for many
organizations.
- And, the most ordinary and not
exciting one: With the senior management, many managers love to throw the
fault, blame their staff and take the praise. And, when they are with their staff,
many times, they make staff believe they are closed to the senior
management.
Many managerial
and leadership books and courses provided in the public for ages, but my
training and HR background made me wonder why there are more and more
management problem occurring.
Anyway, if you
tend to agree from number 1 to number 12, you better watch out, you are not in
a safe zone. Thinking of resigning?
Feeling sick of people? I suggest, NEVER
copy the above, as many people love to complain the management, but once they
becomes the manager, believe it or not they have exactly the same behaviors.
Keep your goodies
up but if you are stressed, be patient and believe in the law of karma.
